17th June - The 50th Maurice Revello Tournament, also known as the Toulon Cup, came to a close recently, with Ukraine U23 emerging as the champions after defeating Ivory Coast U20 in a penalty shootout. Japan U19, who participated in the tournament, secured a commendable 5th place finish.

Japan's U19 team defied the odds throughout the Toulon Cup, as all the other participating teams fielded their U23, U21, and U20 squads. Moreover, Japan's entire squad consisted of players born in 2005. In the group stage, they achieved 2 wins and 2 losses, accumulating 6 points and finishing third in their group. This was the best performance among all the Asian teams in the tournament. The other three Asian teams, South Korea U21, Saudi Arabia U23, and Indonesia U20, failed to make a mark, finishing bottom of their respective groups.

In the 5th-6th place play-off, Japan U19 defeated Mexico U23 with a scoreline of 3-1, ultimately securing the 5th position. Salbei Kento, a player from the Japan U19 team, was crowned the top scorer of the tournament, netting 5 goals. He notably scored a hat-trick in their opening group stage match against Italy U21 and found the back of the net again in the 5th-6th place play-off. Another Japanese U19 player, Kanda Souma, also impressed with 4 goals, sharing the second spot in the goal-scoring charts.
